A Grade 1 grammar course on the pronouns that stand in for other people, animals, and things. Once a student knows who or what a sentence is about, they can use “he” or “she” or “it” or “they” instead of saying the name again.
Students learn which pronoun matches which kind of naming word, and then work on the part that actually goes wrong: keeping the reader clear on who is being talked about. A story that opens with “He shouted my name” leaves everybody guessing. The rule is simple enough to state in one line and takes real practice to use well.
