Once a first grader can find the naming part and the telling part, they have everything they need to catch the most common mistake in early writing: the piece of a sentence that got left on its own. This course turns those two skills into an editing habit.
Students learn to spot a fragment, name which part is missing, and repair it by supplying that part rather than by adding a capital letter or more describing words. The later lessons handle the fragments that fool people, the long ones stuffed with extra words, and the phrases that tell only where or when. The course ends with students checking a short piece of writing line by line.
Written for Grade 1 students working on their own, with a parent, or in a classroom. Nothing is needed except a screen, and pencil and paper for the practice sections.
