A Grade 1 grammar course on showing that somebody owns something. Add an apostrophe and an s to the owner’s name and you get “Ava’s kite” instead of “the kite that belongs to Ava”.
The rule itself takes about four minutes to learn. The reason this needs a whole course is the confusion sitting right next to it. Students have already learned that adding s means more than one, and now they are told that adding s also means owning. Sorting out “two cats” from “the cat’s bowl” is the real work here, and the whole third lesson is spent on it.
