Iconic Nike Soccer Ads

A look at five of the best Nike Soccer adverts

1.  Fun at the Airport

We’ve all been there, sitting at the airport bored out of our minds. Well, Brazil’s stars of 1998 decided to do something about it. Ronaldo, Romario, Cafu and co get the ball out and display their impressive repertoire of skills, with the airport guards in hot pursuit. One Eric Cantona is suitably impressed as he looks out of his plane window on the runway.

2.  Good vs Evil

An all-star team from Europe takes on a fearsome group of devil figures who look to be getting the better of them. The likes of Luis Figo and Patrick Kluivert take a kicking before Paolo Maldini and Ronaldo start the fightback, which concludes with Cantona drilling a shot through the chest of an opponent.

3.  The Cage Tournament

This is the full version of the Cage tournament where some of Nike’s greatest performers go head-to-head in a series of three-a-sides overseen by Cantona. Elvis’ ‘A little less conversation’ plays out as we see the likes of Claudio Lopez, Hernan Crespo, Ronaldo, Edgar Davids and Figo exhibiting their skills in the tight confines of a metal cage.

4.  Take it to the Next Level

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger looks tentatively to the ground as he is caught scouting a player on the sidelines. This player is then thrust into the world of a soccer star, surrounded by the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. Through his eyes we also witness the hardships of being a soccer player.

5.  Write the Future

This 2010 effort was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, of Babel, Amores Perros and 21 Grams fame. The advert shows how life could be for the likes of Fabio Cannavaro, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo if they have a strong World Cup in South Africa. In the event it proved something of a curse for the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Franck Ribery and Didier Drogba who all underperformed when it came to the real stuff. Watch out for a brief cameo from Homer Simpson.
