Naming Parts of Sentences

Review and Final Check

What you learned

The naming part tells who or what the sentence is about. Older students call it the subject.

To find it, ask one question: who or what is this sentence about?

Three things to keep straight

What people thinkWhat is true
The naming part is always a person’s name.It can be a person, an animal, or a thing. “The pot is hot.” is about a pot.
The naming part is one word.It is often several. In “Six bugs crawl up the wall.” it is “Six bugs”.
Any naming word in the sentence will do.Only the one the sentence is about. In “Ava feeds the fish.” it is “Ava”.
